Embarrassment


Everyone gets embarrassed or feels ashamed from time to time.
There are lots of reasons that you might feel embarrassed:
- Getting something wrong in class
- Other people laughing at you or judging you
- Meeting new people
- Your body changing as you grow up
- Other people laughing at you or judging you
- You may even be embarrassed because of someone else's behaviour
Remember feeling embarrassed is normal – it happens to us all.
Here are some tips to help you with feeling embarrassed:
- Laugh it off – try to see the funny side. Ask yourself ‘is it really such a big deal?
- Move on – smile, shrug your shoulders and do something else.
- Take responsibility – if you upset someone, just say sorry. Remember to forgive yourself too!
What if embarrassment doesn’t go away?
- Talk about it – talk to someone you trust. Ask them what they do when they feel ashamed. Talking will make you feel better.
- Be nice to yourself – try not to upset yourself. Give yourself a break and try to focus on something else.
- Make it into a joke to tell your friends –make a funny story and have a laugh with your friends about it.
